On these pages we would like to introduce the institute with its different chairs respectively working divisions. The presented information shall provide an insight in our activities for students as well as for visitors from science and industry. Also pupils are invited to enter the world of mechanical engineering, especially our area of production engineering.

Without a highly developed manufacturing technology all well-known products of our daily life are not available. The necessary added value in a high wage country like Germany is only reachable with a permanent development of new high-tech manufacturing processes respectively continuous improvement of existing techniques. Solely the availability of competitive manufacturing technology combined with the necessary hard- and software is a guarantee to maintain and develop our living standard and to sustainably protect it, taking ecological as well as economical boundary conditions into account. Therewith part production stays indispensable for Germany, because only this assures sufficient added value and enough work for the welfare of mankind.

This area is of special interest for the engineers in the manufacturing technology domain. Thanks to the variety of casting, forming, cutting and generative processes supported by function oriented coatings it is possible to meet the challenges. Besides the mentioned processes the production measurement technology is necessary to monitor deviations from the product demands, identify the failure reasons and to develop necessary corrections. Quality management extends this claim in a sustainable manner taking not only the process, but also the acting people and their organisational involvement into account.

These aforementioned areas are covered by the activities of IFQ in research and development and in education. Since many years we are at the disposal of our external partners with competence and reliability.
